3 Powerful Duas For Masjid (Going, Entering & Leaving)

Introduction

The Masjid (Mosque) is the House of Allah and the heart of the Muslim community. Every step taken towards the Masjid wipes away sins and elevates one’s rank. To maximize the spiritual benefits of visiting Allah’s house, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us specific supplications for the entire journey.

Here are 3 essential authentic Duas for going to, entering, and leaving the Masjid.

Dua for Going to Mosque

Importance: This beautiful Dua is recited while walking towards the Masjid. In it, the believer asks Allah to place ‘Nur’ (Light) in every part of their being—heart, eyes, ears, and surroundings—signifying a request for complete spiritual guidance and clarity.

Transliteration: Allahummaj’al fi qalbi nuran, wa fi basari nuran, wa fi sam’i nuran, wa ‘an yamini nuran, wa ‘an yasari nuran, wa fawqi nuran, wa tahti nuran, wa amami nuran, wa khalfi nuran, waj’al li nura.

English Translation: “O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, and light in my hearing, light on my right, light on my left, light above me, light below me, light in front of me, light behind me, and grant me light.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari: 6316 & Sahih Muslim: 763)

Dua for Entering Masjid

Importance: Upon entering the Masjid, the Sunnah is to step in with the right foot first and ask Allah to open the doors of His Mercy. This signifies entering a sanctuary of forgiveness and peace.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Transliteration: Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu ‘ala Rasulillah, Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik.

English Translation: “In the Name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.” (Sahih Muslim: 713 & Sunan Ibn Majah: 770)

Dua for Leaving Masjid

Importance: When leaving the Masjid, the Sunnah is to step out with the left foot first. Unlike entering where we seek ‘Mercy’ (spiritual reward), upon leaving we ask for Allah’s ‘Bounty’ (Fadl), which refers to lawful provision and success in the outside world.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Transliteration: Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu ‘ala Rasulillah, Allahumma inni as’aluka min fadlik.

English Translation: “In the Name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You from Your Bounty.” (Sahih Muslim: 713 & Sunan Ibn Majah)
