Seeking forgiveness (Istighfar) is one of the most beautiful acts of worship a believer can do. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, despite being sinless, used to seek Allah’s forgiveness more than 70 times a day.
One of the most heartfelt and comprehensive duas for forgiveness is the one taught by the Prophet ﷺ himself:
“اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي…”

Dua Masura in Arabic
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِيْ ظُلْمًا كَثِيْرًا وَّلاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ مَغْفِرَةً مِّنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِيْ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ
Dua Masura Eglish
- Allahumma inni zhalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran,
- wa laa yaghfirudh-dhunooba illa anta,
- faghfir li maghfiratan min ‘indika,
- warhamni, innaka anta Al-Ghafoor ur-Raheem.
Dua e Masura English Translation (Meaning)
- “O Allah, I have greatly wronged myself,
- and none forgives sins except You.
- So forgive me with a forgiveness from You,
- and have mercy on me.
- Indeed, You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”
When to Recite This Dua?
- After salah (prayer)
- During Tahajjud
- After committing a sin and feeling guilt
