3 Powerful Duas for Pregnancy & Labor
Pregnancy is a journey of patience, hope, and immense spiritual reward. Allah (SWT) describes the struggle of a mother in the Quran: “His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness…” (Surah Luqman, 31:14).
During this delicate time, seeking Allah’s protection and aid is the strongest weapon for a believing mother. Here are 3 powerful authentic Duas from the Quran and Sunnah for pregnancy, pious offspring, and an easy delivery.
Dua for Pregnancy: Protection for Mother & Baby
Importance: This is the Dua of Hannah (the mother of Maryam AS). When she was pregnant, she dedicated her child to Allah and sought His protection for her offspring from Shaytan. It is a beautiful supplication for the spiritual safety of the unborn child.
وَإِنِّي أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
Transliteration: Wa inni u’idhuha bika wa dhurriyyataha minash-shaitanir-rajim.
English Translation: “And I seek refuge for her and her offspring with You from Satan, the rejected.” (Surah Ali ‘Imran, 3:36)
Dua for Pious Offspring: Supplication During Pregnancy
Importance: Prophet Zakariya (AS) made this supplication when he prayed for a pure and righteous heir. It is perfect for expecting parents to recite frequently, asking Allah not just for a child, but for a ‘good’ (Tayyibah) generation.
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ
Transliteration: Rabbi hab li min ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibah, innaka sami’ud-du’a.
English Translation: “My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.” (Surah Ali ‘Imran, 3:38)
Dua for Easy Childbirth: Supplication for Labor Pain
Importance: While there is no specific Hadith solely for ‘labor pain’, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught this powerful Dua to be recited whenever facing any difficulty or hardship. Scholars recommend reciting this during labor to ask Allah to make the delivery easy.
اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلًا، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا
Transliteration: Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla, wa Anta taj’alul-hazna idha shi’ta sahla.
English Translation: “O Allah, there is no ease except in that which You have made easy, and You make the difficulty, if You wish, easy.” (Sahih Ibn Hibban: 974 / Al-Adhkar: 284)
