Dua After Adhan: Supplication Following the Call to Prayer
Importance: The Prophet (PBUH) promised that whoever recites this Dua after hearing the Adhan, his intercession (Shafa’ah) becomes due for them on the Day of Resurrection.
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَائِمَةِ آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَةَ وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ
Transliteration: Allahumma Rabba hadhihid-da’watit-tammah, was-salatil-qa’imah, ati Muhammadanil-Wasilata wal-Fadilah, wab’ath-hu maqamam-mahmudanil-ladhi wa’adtah.
English Translation: “O Allah! Lord of this perfect call and of the regular prayer which is going to be established! Vouchsafe Muhammad ‘Al-Wasilah’ (the highest station in Paradise) and ‘Al-Fadilah’ (superiority), and raise him to the ‘Maqam Mahmud’ (the Praiseworthy Station) which You have promised him.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari: 614)
Dua Between Adhan & Iqamah: Best Time for Supplication
Importance: The Prophet (PBUH) said: “The supplication made between the Adhan and the Iqamah is not rejected.” When asked what one should pray for during this time, he replied: “Ask Allah for ‘Afiyah (well-being/safety) in this world and the Hereafter.”
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ
Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’alukal-‘afwa wal-‘afiyah fid-dunya wal-akhirah.
English Translation: “O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being (safety) in this world and the Hereafter.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi: 3594)
Note: While you can make any personal Dua during this time, asking for ‘Afiyah is the specific recommendation of the Prophet (PBUH).
