4 Duas for Parents: (Health, Long Life & Forgiveness)

Parents are the greatest blessing from Allah (SWT). Serving them is one of the highest acts of worship, and making Dua for them is a duty that continues even after they pass away. Allah commands us in the Holy Quran:

“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents.” (Surah Al-Isra, 17:23)

Whether our parents are with us or have departed from this world, the best gift we can offer them is sincere supplication. Here are 3 essential Quranic and Sunnah Duas for parents’ health, mercy, and forgiveness.

Quranic Dua for Parents (Rabbir Hamhuma): Forgiveness & Mercy

Importance: This is the most renowned Dua for parents mentioned in the Quran. It teaches us to ask Allah to treat our parents with the same tenderness and care they showed us when we were helpless infants.

رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا

Transliteration: Rabbir hamhuma kama rabbayani saghira.

English Translation: “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.” (Surah Al-Isra, 17:24)

Dua for Deceased Parents: Supplication for Maghfirat

Importance: This powerful Dua from Surah Ibrahim covers oneself, one’s parents, and all believers. It is an excellent supplication for seeking forgiveness (Maghfirat) for deceased parents on the Day of Judgment.

رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ

Transliteration: Rabbanaghfir li wa li-walidayya wa lil-mu’minina yauma yaqumul-hisab.

English Translation: “Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.” (Surah Ibrahim, 14:41)

Dua for Parents’ Health: Supplication for Long Life

Importance: When parents are ill or aging, we should pray for their complete recovery and strength. This authentic Dua from the Sunnah is the ultimate prayer for healing (Shifa).

English Translation: “O Allah, the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble and heal him (or her). You are the Healer. There is no true cure but Your cure, a cure that leaves behind no ailment.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari: 5743)
