Dua for Waswasa Salah and Outside of Salah (Text & MP3)

Here is the specific supplication (dua) and action to be performed when experiencing Waswas (whispers from Shaytan) during Salah (prayer).

This guidance comes from a specific Hadith where a companion complained to the Prophet (PBUH) about this exact problem.

Dua and Action for Waswas in Salah

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) explained that the devil who specifically whispers during prayer is called Khinzab.

If you feel his presence or are being distracted by his whispers during your prayer, you should perform the following two actions:

Dua for Waswasa Arabic Text

أَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

English Transliteration

A’ūdhu billāhi minash-shayṭānir-rajīm.

English Translation

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.

The Action

After reciting this, you should spit lightly (or blow dryly) to your left three times.

This is a symbolic act. It should be a light, dry “tuth” (like blowing air) and not a full spit.

The Source (Hadith Context)

This practice is based on the authentic Hadith of Uthman bin Abi al-‘As (RA).

He reported that he came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, the Shaytan comes between me and my prayer and my recitation, confusing me.”

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “That is a devil called Khinzab. If you feel his presence, seek refuge in Allah from him (i.e., say ‘A’ūdhu billāhi minash-shayṭānir-rajīm’) and spit lightly to your left three times.”

Uthman (RA) said: “I did that, and Allah took him away from me.” (Muslim)
